The Fantastic Four: First Steps blasts us into a bold new chapter for Marvel’s First Family, reintroducing the iconic team with a warm, heartfelt origin story.

The film follows Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they take their first steps into becoming Earth’s most unlikely protectors. When a cosmic anomaly draws them into a conflict involving the mysterious Silver Surfer (now reimagined as a woman) with a haunting mission, the team must face not only the threat at hand, but also what it truly means to stand together as a family.

While the plot is relatively simple and straightforward, it’s anchored by a cause that unites not just the Four, but the audience as well. The action serves the characters rather than the other way around, allowing space for genuine emotional moments. Pedro Pascal’s take on Reed Richards is magnetic, a mix of scientific genius and understated vulnerability. But it’s Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm who emerges as the film’s heart. Level-headed, fiercely intelligent, and deeply compassionate, she’s the real hero at the core, delivering the kind of speeches that rally everyone together. HERBIE is never far behind, adding in humour and warmth.

The decision to make the Silver Surfer a woman adds fresh layers to a character shrouded in mystery. Her arc is steeped in themes of sacrifice and moral conflict, which mirror the Fantastic Four’s own journey toward becoming a true family. While the film isn’t stacked with fight sequences, it more than delivers in rich character development and moments that feel genuinely earned. This isn’t your generic superhero spectacle. It’s about belonging, resilience, and showing up for each other when it counts.
Adding to the film’s emotional heartbeat is an incredible score with big, bold orchestral crescendos. The music doesn’t just accompany the story. It elevates it.

By the time the credits roll, you’ll feel like you’ve taken that first step right alongside them. If First Steps is the foundation for what’s to come, Marvel’s newest era is off to a Fantastic start.
